- Resources are shared among multiple users
- Accessible to general public over the internet
- Offer with pay per user or subscription-based pricing
- Managed and maintained by cloud service provider
What are the types of public cloud?
The main types of public cloud are:
- Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Provides access to fundamental computing resources like virtual machines, storage, and networking
- Platform as a Service (PaaS): Provides a platform for building, testing, and deploying applications
- Software as a Service (SaaS): Provides access to software applications over the internet such as managing the software, database, and infrastructure
- Function as a Service (FaaS): Provides a platform running event triggered code functions without managing servers
What are the characteristics of public cloud?
- Multi-tenancy: Multiple organizations share the same cloud infrastructure, with each tenant’s data and applications logically separated from others.
- Scalability: Resources can be quickly scaled up or down to match changing business needs.
- On-demand self-service: Users can provision and manage resources without requiring IT support.
What are the benefits of public cloud in Pharma?
- Cost savings: Reduced capital expenditures and operational costs, as infrastructure and maintenance are handled by the provider.
- Increased agility: Rapid deployment of new applications and services, enabling faster time-to-market for new products and services.
- Scalability: Easily scale up or down to accommodate changing business needs, such as during clinical trials or product launches
